06.20.2017 - Spring 2017 Semester Wrap-Up

COLUMBUS, OH – The Engineers concluded an exciting semester with the program’s first ever National Tournament appearance back in March. After enduring a long and snowy bus ride to Columbus, the team was able to defeat Northern Arizona University, while falling to Lindenwood-Belleville and The University of Miami Ohio for a 1 – 2 finish. These results earned RPI a ranking of 12 for the entire nation. Full results for the tournament can be found here.

In order to qualify for nationals, the Engineers defeated the Minutemen from University of Massachusetts followed by the University of New Hampshire Wildcats, in a dominant 5 – 1 fashion. This was on the heels of a promising SECHL playoffs performance comprising of a narrow victory over Montclair State and a respectable showing against William Paterson.

Other notable results from the semester included a defining 2 – 0 road-trip weekend comprising of one goal victories over the Boston College Eagles and another triumph over UNH. Overall, RPI ended the season with a record of 19 – 10 – 1 – 1, the program’s best to date.

The Engineers wish the best of luck to its graduated players: Adam Hennick, Josh Huett, and Sam Mannion. Although few in number, these 3 had the impact of many more, and will surely be missed. The team looks forward to finding new recruits in the fall to fill their void. Also of note, New York University is moving from ACHA D2 to D1 following their second National Championship title in 3 years, leaving an opening in the Super East that will be filled by Sacred Heart.

Thank you all for your continued support, and here’s to another great season!
