The Engineers will have their work cut out for them Saturday
night as they take on the William Patterson Pioneers in Wayne NJ. The Engineers
will look to build on last year's successes, finishing #14 in the Northeast
(ranked as high as #12) in only their
second season, but they face the formidable #2 ranked Pioneers in their season
opener. This will be the first time the clubs have met in their history, and
will be a chance for RPI to show that they can skate with a team that qualified
for the national tournament in each of the past 3 seasons.
Returning players for the Engineers include all-stars Nick
Jones in net, Ryan O'Neil on defense, and Marc Flory up front. The rest of the team is relatively young,
including seven freshmen and six sophomores. With assistant captain David
Romunchuk out with a shoulder injury, this young core will need to step up in
this, possibly their biggest test of the season.
